Exams have arrived, and the first semester is about to wrap up. I always enjoy second semester the most. First semester is spent looking back; back to summer, back toThanksgiving, back to Christmas. Students are not yet in school mode, and there are frequent changes to class lists and schedules as students drop, add, or simply disappear.
Second semester is about looking forward; toward March break, toward summer, and it feels like there is more positive energy in the classroom. Students are into scholastic mode, there are fewer shuffles between classes, and I as a teacher have my game on.
My courses are all over the place again this semester, because of my double qualifications. A Grade Ten science with academic students should be a pleasure, although there is some new curriculum added this year which will take additional preparation time. My Grade Eleven Living and Working With Children is comfortable now, having taught it a number of times. The GLE/Homework/Skills/Recovery Credit course can be a challenge but since it is first period perhaps the students will be sleepy!
